In The Garden
(could be Sam and Frodo reunited in Valinor-or beyond)

The trees are always wet with rain
After a summer shower when I saw you standin'
In the garden in the garden wet with rain

You wiped the teardrops from your eye in sorrow
As we watched the petals fall down to the ground
And as I sat beside you I felt the
Great sadness that day in the garden

And then one day you came back home
You were a creature all in rapture
You had the key to your soul
And you did open that day you came back to the garden

The olden summer breeze was blowin' on your face
The light of Eru was shinin' on your countenance divine
And your eyes a violet colour as you
Sat beside your father and your mother in the garden

The summer breeze was blowin' on your face
Within your violet you treasure your summery words
And as the shiver from my neck down to my spine
Invited me to daylight and nature in the garden

And you went into a trance
Your childlike vision became so fine
And we heard the bells inside the town
We loved so much
And felt the presence of the youth of
Eternal summers in the garden

And as it touched your cheeks so lightly
Born again you were and we hushed and the silence bloomed so brightly
And we felt the presence of the Vala

And I turned to you and I said
No gold, no Nazgul, no Dark Lord
Just you and I and nature
And Illuvutar in the garden

No gold ring, no Nazgul, no Dark Lord
Just you and I and nature
And Illuvutar and the
Vala and the lovely elves
In the garden wet with rain
No gold ring, no Nazgul, no Dark Lord
Just you and I and nature and Illuvutar
In the garden, in the garden, wet with rain
No gold ring, no Nazgul, no Dark Lord
Just you and I and nature
And Illuvutar in the garden

( Waitin' ) in the Havens Grey
(aka Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding)

Waitin' in the morning sun,
I`ll be waitin' when the evening come,
Watching the ship sail in,
And I'll sail with it forever away, yeah,
I'm waitin' in the Havens Grey,
Watching the tide roll away, ouh,
I'm just waitin' in the Havens Grey,
Wasting time.

I left my home in the Shire,
Headed for some Valinor Bay,
I have nothing to live for,
Looks like I had better sail away,

So I'm just waitin' in the Havens Grey
Watching the tide roll away,
I'm waitin' in the Havens Grey,
Wasting time

Looks like nothings gonna change,
Everything still remain the same,
I can't heal like my friends want me to do,
So I guess I'll go to Valinor, yes,

Sittin' here resting my bones,
And this ring shadow won't leave me alone, yes,
Two thousand miles I roam
Just to make this dock my home

Now I'm just waitin' in the Havens Grey
Watching the tide roll away, ooh
Waitin' in the Havens Grey
Wasting time

One Master Merry
aka One Irish Rover by Van Morrison

Tell me the story now
Now that we may tarry
Wrap it in glory
For one Merry

Tell me you're wiser now
Tell me you're older
Wrap it in glory
For one Merry solider

Bridge:
I can tell by the light in his eye
That he's been so far away
And done great, brave deeds, you see
With a loyal heart he's never gone astray

Tell me the facts real straight
Don't make me tarry
Wrap it in glory
For one Master Merry
Tell me you see the light
Tell me you know me
Make it come out alright
And wrap it in glory
For one Master Merry
For one Master Merry
One Master Merry
One Master Merry

On Bag End St. *aka* On Hyndford Street
by Van Morrison, changes by me

Take me back, take me way, way, way back
On Bag End Street
Where you could feel the silence as the moon shines in Heaven
On long summer nights
As Bilbo told me many stories
And the voices whispered across the Bywater
In the quietness as we sank into restful slumber in the silence
And carried on dreaming, in Eru
And walks down the Hill to the Party Field, cherry wine
On sunny summer afternoons
Picking apples from the side of the road
That spilled over from the gardens of the houses on the leafy Avenue
Watching the windows golden with candlelight in the evenings
And meeting down by the Dragon
Playing round Mrs. Proudfoot's lamp
Going out to Buckland on fine ponies
And walking from the end of woods to the Brandwine
Sharing the Brandybuck's berries and cream
In the days before gold's dark took
Bag End Street, Harvest Parade
Party Field, stands of birch
Sunday six-bells, and in between the silence there was conversation
And laughter, and music and singing, and shivers up the back of the neck
And tuning up of violins late at night
And reading of books during the day
Also visits to cousins on the programme
Early mornings when contemplation was best
Going up the verdant hills
And the gentle glens in summer and coming back
To Bag End Street, feeling wondrous and lit up inside
With a sense of everlasting life
And reading about days of old and beautiful stories
Saying, "I would like to go there" by the fireside
And "Read that again, Bilbo"
Over and over again
And voices echoing late at night over Bywater
And it's always being now, and it's always being now
It's always now
Can you feel the silence?
On Bag End Street where you could feel the silence
The moon shone on long summer nights
As Bilbo told me many stories
And the voices whispered across the Bywater
And in the quietness we sank into restful slumber in silence
And carried on dreaming in Eru

Why Should I Cry for You
by Sting (changes by me)

Out of the Havens sail
Over the reefs of moonshine
Under the skies of fall
North, north west, the shore of Aman

Under the star's bright fire
Over the seas of silence
Healing on distant soil
For all my days remaining
But would west be true?

All colors bleed to red
Asleep on an unfamiliar bed
Living west of the seas
For all my days remaining

But would west be true?
Why should I?
Why should I cry for you?
Dark memories follow me
Over a turquoise sea
Mountain of Taniequetil shining,
For all my days remaining,

What would be true?

Sometimes I see your face,
The stars seem to lose their place
Why must I think of you?
Why must I?
Why should I?
Why should I cry for you?
Why would you want me to?
And what would it mean to say,
That, "I loved you in my fashion"?

What would be true?
Why should I?
Why should I cry for you?

Two Cousins
(aka Two Sisters, traditional Border Ballad)

There were two cousins side by side
Sing aye dum, sing aye day
There were two cousins side by side
The fish were made for me
There were two cousins side by side
The thin one, "It's my birthday," cried
I'll be true to precious
If she'll be true to me
The fat one found a gay gold ring...
The thin one found not a single thing...
The fat one lost his fishing hat...
The thin one never thought much of that...
As they were fishing for bass and brim...
The thin one did the fat one in ...
Cousin, oh cousin stay thy hand...
And you can have all the fish we land...
Cousin I won't stay my hand...
And I'll just keep this golden band...
So away he slunk and away he ran...
Until Bilbo came from orcs on lam...
Bilbo took away the gay gold ring...
And then he had to give it up again...
The ring was thrown into lava red...
The thinnest cousin was boiled 'till dead...

My Shire Love
(aka My Lagan Love, Irish traditional)

Where Shire streams sing lullabies
There blows a lily fair.
The twilight gleam is in her eye,
The night is on her hair.
And like a ringsick Nazgul king
She hath my heart in thrall.
No life have I, no liberty,
For love is Lord of all.

And often when the beetles horn
Has lulled the eve to sleep,
I'll steal into her sheiling lorn
And through the doorway creep.
There on the cricket's singing stone,
She makes the bogwood fire
And sings in sweet and undertone,
The song of hearts desire.

Time of No Reply (a song for the last elf)
by Nick Drake (changes by me)

The Third Age was gone and evil beat down
And the King reached for his winged crown
I looked behind as I heard a sigh
But this was the time of no reply.

The grey ships sailed and the crowd went home
I was left by the harbour all alone
I turned to speak as they went by
But this was the time of no reply.

The time of no reply is calling me to stay
There is no hello and no goodbye
To leave there is no way.

The trees on the hill had nothing to say
They would keep their dreams till another day
So they stood and thought and wondered why
For this was the time of no reply.

Time goes by from year to year
And no one asks why I am standing here
But I have my answer as I look to the sky
This is the time of no reply.

The time of no reply is calling me to stay
There`s no hello and no goodbye
To leave there is no way.

This Ring
(aka This Weight by Van Morrison)

Thisr ring is weighing on my heart
This ring is tearing me apart
This ring is weighing on my soul
And it just won't leave me alone

You know I'm talking about this ring
You know I'm talking about this ring

In Mordor orcs are watching me
Got to move to protect my sanity
Anonymity is all I want you see
You may think I'm weakening, but

You know I'm talking about this ring
You know I'm talking ahout this ring

And this Gollum, Sam understood, ain't no good
I would rather be in Bag End, understood?
If I could only loose this...

You know I'm talking about this ring
You know I'm talking about this ring

And this Gollum, Sam understood, ain't no good
I would rather be in Bag End, understood?
If I could only loose this...

You know I'm talking about this ring
You know I'm talking about this ring

In the very first I was happy, in control
Set me free in body and soul
But this ring is just bringing me down
It's never satisfied and I must throw it down
You know I'm talking about this ring....

My Ain True Love
for a Gondorian girl gone to find her true love on the battlefield
(My Ain True Love by Allison Kraus)

You'll walk unscathed through orcs most dire,
No Southron's blade will cut thee down,
No arrow's flight will mark thy face
And you will be my ain true love,
And you will be my ain true love

And as you walk through death's dark veil,
The Dark Lord's thunder can't prevail,
And those who hunt thee down will fail,
And you will be my ain true love,
And you will be my ain true love.

Asleep inside the fourth level south,
I dream and cry, "Please stay the rout,"
I'll seek to find him north and south,
I've gone to find my ain true love.

The field is cut and bleeds to red.
Black arrows fly round my head,
The healing man may count me dead,
When I've gone to find my ain true love,
I've gone to find my ain true love.

This is Gollum skulking after Frodo and wanting his Precious.

Run For Your Life (apologies to the Beatles)

I’d rather see you dead, Baggins boy,
Than to be with my ring on lam.
You’d better keep your head, Baggins boy,
Or I won’t know where I am.
You’d better run for your life if you can, Baggins boy,
Hide your head in the sand, Baggins boy.
Catch you with my golden ring,
That’s the end - ah, Baggins boy.
Well you know that I’m a wicked Stoor
And I was born with a jealous mind,
And I will spend my whole life tryin’,
Just to find that ring of mine.
You’d better run for your life if you can, Baggins boy
Hide your head in the sand, Baggins boy.
Catch you with my golden ring,
That’s the end - ah, Baggins boy.
Let this be a sermon,
I mean everything I said,
Baggins, I’m determined,
And I’d rather see you dead.
You’d better run for your life if you can, Baggins boy,
Hide your head in the sand, Baggins boy.
Catch you with my golden ring,
That’s the end - ah, Baggins boy.
I’d rather see you dead, Baggins boy,
Than to be with my ring on lam.
You’d better keep your head, Baggins boy,
Or I won’t know where I am.
You’d better run for your life if you can, Baggins boy,
Hide your head in the sand, Baggins boy.
Catch you with my golden ring,
That’s the end - ah, Baggins boy.

Haven
(original lyrics by B. Buchanan, adapted by me)

All alone an hour to lie
broken down and taken by
the one pursued by nine
I give in on the mountain
fire in the fading moon
fire in the afternoon
Eagle, come and take me soon
take me from the mountain

On an autumn day saling on a ship of gray
just another day waiting for an answer
In a quiet place staring nothing into place
In a sacred place looking for an answer

In Valinor safe from all apprasials
I relax and remember now and then
but all my memories only take away from me
any hope I'll be happy in the end

Whistling Human Ranger
(aka Whistling Gypsy Rover-Irish traditional)

Human ranger, come overhill, down through valley so shady
He whistled and he sang 'till the greenwoods rang and he won the heart of an elf-maid
Ah dee doo ah dee doo da day, ah dee doo ah dee day dee
He whistled and he sang 'till the greenwoods rangand he won the heart of an elf-maid
She left her father's castle gate, she left her elven bower
She left her own immortal state, to follow the human ranger
Ah dee doo ah dee do da day, ah dee doo ah dee day dee
He whistled and he sang 'till the greenwoods rang and he won the heart of an elf-maid
Her father saddled up his fastest steed, roamed the valleys all over
The only one who could save his girl was the whistling human ranger
Ah dee doo ah dee do da day, ah dee doo ah dee day dee
He whistled and he sang 'till the greenwoods rang and he won the heart of an elf-maid
He saw at last a victory fine, over Sauron so shady
And there were crowns and there was wine for the ranger and his elf-maid
Ah dee doo ah dee do da day, ah dee doo ah dee day dee
He whistled and he sang 'till the city rang
and he won the heart of an elf-maid
He is no ranger, my father, she said, but king of these lands all over
And I will stay 'till my dying day, with my whistling human ranger
Ah dee doo ah dee doo da day, ah dee doo ah dee day dee
He whistled and he sang 'till the city rang and he won the heart of an elf-maid

Sailing Out of Life
(aka Coming Back to Life by Pink Floyd, changed by me)

There were days when I was burned and broken
And days that slipped by from my window watching
And many times when I was hurt and helpless
Because the things I saw and the things I did surround me
For awhile I have been living in someone else's world
Dying to heal now is what I heard
I was sailing straight into the shining sun

Lost in thought and lost in time
While in the Shire seeds of life and seeds of change were planted
Outside the rain fell dark and slow
While Sam thought of me in this irresistible lad without time
I took a heavenly sail through the silence
I knew the moment had arrived
For healing the past and giving up on life

I took a heavenly ride through the silence
I knew the waiting had begun
And headed straight..into the shining sun

Blue-eyes aka Greensleeves

(poss. Henry VIII of England, 1500's. He's long dead so I can't be beheaded for my changes! Actually, Grammy always told me he executed one of my forebears for having a letter from the Pope! Shocked )

Alas, Frodo, they do you wrong,
To not offer you lauds and glory.
For your path was so hard and long,
Only Sam in your company.

Chorus:
Blue-eyes was all my joy
Blue-eyes was my delight,
Blue-eyes was my heart of gold,
And who but my Frodo Blue-eyes.

Your vows you've kept, like my heart,
Oh, why did you so enrapture me?
Now I remain in a world apart
But my heart is yours for eternity.

chorus

You could not offer me your hand,
Your wounds and scars were far too grave,
I have spilt my blood on the sands,
If healing here you could have had.

chorus

The perilous burden you did not disdain,
Your courage, it did capture me,
And though you go, I still remain
In love for all eternity.

chorus

The Shire hills are verdant green,
Yet grey they seem bereft of thee;
You will never again in this land be seen,
And with you went the soul of me.

chorus

I couldst desire no earthly thing,
Even if I could have it readily.
But to see you still play and sing;
And with you went the sould of me.

chorus

Well, I will pray to illuvutar high,
that he my constancy mayst see,
And that yet once before I die,
He will show your lovely face to me.

chorus

Ah, Blue-eyes, now farewell, adieu,
To Iluvutar I pray to prosper thee,
For to you my heart is always true,
And beyond the West I'll meet with thee.

chorus

These Are The Days by Van Morrison (changes by me)

These are the days of the King returning
These are the days, the time is now
There is no past, there's only future
There's only here, there's only now

Oh your smiling face, your gracious presence
The fires of spring are kindling bright
Oh the radiant heart and the song of glory
Crying freedom in the night

These are the days by the sparkling river
Ithilien's grace we'll once more find
This is the love of the Star Queen Varda
Who in the darkest night does shine

These are days of the endless dancing and the
Long walks on the summer night
These are the days of the true romancing
When I'm holding you oh, so tight

These are the days by the sparkling river
Ithilien's grace we'll once more find
This is the love of the Star Queen Varda
Who in the darkest night does shine

These are the days now that we must savour
And we must enjoy as we can
These are the days that will last forever
You've got to hold them in your heart.

Madame Lo(belia)
aka Madame George by Van Morrison, Changes by me

Down on Bag End Avenue
She sees Bilbo coming into her field of view
Clicking, clacking of her umbrella too
Her hope he'll destroy, Madame Lo
Marching with her Lotho-boy behind
When Bilbo's gone they think to get his smial fine
But that wanderer is alive and comes in drifting through
The round green door from lands afar
And inside they're stealing lots and lots
Stuffing their pockets with all that Bilbo gots
And golden coins to buy things in the shops
Happy taken Madame Lo
That's when she falls
Whoa, that's when she falls
Yeah, that's when she falls
When she falls into a trance
Imagines sitting on a sofa in that Bag End manse
With her folded arms she gives the history books a glance
They delight the eyes of Madame Lo
And she thinks she's filled her bag
It's so heavy that her knees begin to sag
Thinking that carrying the loot's a drag
The one and only Madame Lo
And then from outside the frosty window raps
Bilbo jumps in and says Lord have mercy unhand my copper pots
And immediately drops everything she gots
Down onto the floor below
And she knows she's gotta go
Away from that grand smial on Bagshot Row
Green grass growing on the roof, the house below
And the rain, hail, sleet, and snow
Say goodbye to Madame Lo
Dry your eye for Madame Lo
Wonder why for Madame Lo
And as she leaves, the room is filled with music, laughing, music,
dancing, music all around the room
And all Bilbo's young cousins come around, Brandybucks and Tooks and all
So bold
And as she's about to leave
She jumps up and says, "Hey! I should at least get those silver spoons"
And she gets those spoons she loves because Bilbo loves
To say goodbye to Madame Lo
Dry your eye for Madame Lo
Wonder why for Madame Lo
Dry your eyes for Madame Lo

A Long September

(aka A Long December by the Counting Crows, changes by me)

A long september, there’s no reason to believe
Or think this year will be better than the last
I can’t think of the the ring thing to say before I start leaven’
Now the days go by so fast
And it’s one more day up in the Shire
And it’s one more night in Bag End
If I think that I could find healing...i wish I could
The smell of hospitals in winter
And the feeling that it’s all a lot of oysters, but no pearls
All at once I look across across the sea
To see the way that light shines upon a sail
And it’s one more day up in the Shire
And it’s one more night in Bag End
If you think you might come to Valinor...i think you should
Walk to a hillside manor sometime after two a.m.
And talked a little while about the year
I guess the autumn makes you laugh a little slower,
Makes me talk a little lower about the things I could not show her
And it’s been a long september and there’s no reason to believe
Or think this year will be better than the last
I can’t remember all the times I tried to tell my myself
To hold on to these moments as they pass
And it’s one more day up in the Shire
And it’s one more night in Bag End
It’s been so long since I’ve seen the ocean...i guess I should

Glad Tidings (Van Morrison, changes by me)

And they'll lay you down low in Valinor
And the lips that you kiss will say praises.
And the miles that you traveled the distance

So believe no lies, dry your eyes and realize
That surprise
La, la, la, la la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la...
And both Elves and Men will shake hands and talk in numbers
And the princess will wake up from her slumber
Then all the knights will step forth with their arm bands
And ev'ry stranger you meet in the street will bless your hand
So believe no lies, then dry your eyes and realize
That surprise
La, la, la...

Bridge:
And we'll send your glad tidings North to Rohan
Open up your eyes so you may see
Ask you not to read between the lines
Hope that you will come in right on time
And they'll talk to you while you're in trances
And you'll visualize not taking any chances
But meet them halfway with love, peace and persuasion
And expect them to rise for the occasion
Don't it gratify when you see it materialize
Right in front of your eyes
That surprise

And they'll lay you down low in Valinor
