Where there's a Will there's an Adulas

Part 3

So we went inside the stone cottage and sat down in the comfortable seating main room. However it didn’t take long before it became obvious that while Will now knew who he was he still couldn’t remember how he had arrived in Middle-earth. Now this frustrated him to the point where I and Prince Imrahil could see that the man was on the verge of withdrawing within himself.

“Maybe we should try a different approach to this,” I said while Will got up and went over to the window that overlooked the Bay of Belfalas which meant he now stood with his back to us. Then I looked at the Prince. “Could you show me where Will was found?” I asked.

“Of course,” he instantly replied. “But if you’re thinking of retracing his steps so to speak I’m afraid that it won’t work since he was found washed up on the beach below the cliff outside.”

“Was he in a small boat or on a piece of wreckage?”

“No to either so I can only assume that he swam from somewhere which would be quite a feat if he came from the west since only open ocean lies in that direction. Why do you ask?”

“I don’t want to say just yet until I see where he was found,” I replied thoughtfully as an idea of how Will entered Middle-earth started to form. “However before we do that maybe now would be a good time to take a break. That way you can meet my friend’s,” I then gently suggested to Will who turned to look at me with an appreciative expression on his face.

“Yes a break now sounds like a good idea as does meeting your friends,” he replied with a small smile. Then he sighed. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t be acting this way.”

“It’s natural for you to feel frustrated with all of this,” I said kindly with a smile while Prince Imrahil nodded in agreement. Then he stood.

“Come let us have our noon meal at the same time,” he invited in a cordial way and soon we were making our way back to the comfortable sitting area of the garden where Aragorn and Legolas were waiting for us. And when Will saw my brother he did a double take while Legolas raised his eyebrows in surprise during which time Aragorn looked at me questioningly.

“Will Turner I would like you to meet my brother Legolas and our good friend Aragorn,” I said with an amused smile while I made the introductions.

“Do all elves look like me?” the man asked me in amazement which made me chuckle softly.

“No they don’t,” I replied while Prince Imrahil spoke quietly to a servant about the noon meal.

“I’m hoping you can explain this,” Aragorn queried with an obvious interest in my answer.

“Me too,” Legolas said. Then he thought softly to me “You’re not related in some way to Will are you?"

Now there was a subtle hint of worry in my brother’s voice which puzzled me. “No I’m not. Why do you ask?”

“Oh I was just curious.”

Now I wasn’t buying that answer for I knew my brother too well not to notice when something was bothering him but I didn’t have the time to pursue it further because Aragorn was waiting for his. So I said “Well I have a theory concerning our physical appearances.”

By then Prince Imrahil wanted us all to follow him inside where a large wooden table had been laid out for our noon meal which consisted of simple but delicious food and a choice of cool wines to sip along with it. And it was while we were eating that I explained my theory while trying to keep it as simple as possible so I wouldn’t overwhelm everyone with terms foreign to them.

“So the actor Orlando Bloom is responsible for mine and Legolas’s physical appearance since he portrayed us in two different movies,” Will finally said slowly to me as he struggled to sum up my explanation with terms he had never used before.

“Yes that’s right.”

“But where do you fit into all of this?” Will asked with a confused expression on his face.

“I don’t. I’m an enigma,” I replied with an innocent smile which had Aragorn nearly choking on his wine and my brother smiling broadly. “I’m one of those people who are born looking like someone else despite having no family ties to that person.”

“Oh you’re definitely an enigma Adulas,” Aragorn agreed with a grin while wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. Then he looked at Legolas and added “What an understatement!”

“Yes he does have a tendency to do that every once in a while,” Legolas replied while still smiling. “Hopefully I will see you do it again,” he then thought to me with that subtle hint of worry which made me look at him curiously for I had no idea what he was thinking about. But I did get the feeling that it was connected to his earlier question which had puzzled me and only confirmed in my mind that something was indeed bothering him.

In the meantime Prince Imrahil who had been listening to all of this with great interest asked “So does this Orlando Bloom have anything to do with Will being here now?”

“No he doesn’t. But I’m sure the answer to that is somewhere close to where Will was found washed up on the beach,” I replied. “Maybe we should go there now and not keep him in the dark any longer.”

And so we did.
