Difficult Decisions
by suzie sheelf
CHAPTER 37
Elewen decided to go and speak to Ilweran, Glorfindel was right, she
really did not want to leave Middle-earth just yet, and she did not want
to leave Sammy either. But she also wanted to make Ilweran happy. 'It's all
so confusing,' she thought to herself.
She arrived at Ilweran's room, knocked on the door, and waited for a
reply. When there was no reply to a second knocking, she opened the door
and entered the room.
"Ilweran, amme. Are you here? Hello." Elewen called out. After getting
no reply, Elewen decided to sit and wait, Ilweran should return soon, she
hoped. It would soon be time for the evening meal and her stomach was rumbling,
she had missed her noon meal.
Ilweran walked the corridors towards Elewen's room, but had stopped briefly
to look in on Celebrian. She knocked on Elewen's door, when there was no
reply she opened the door and entered. "Not here" she said to her self, "I
wonder where she is", Ilweran sat down and thought for a moment, "Of course
when ever she's in trouble." Ilweran got up and stated back towards her own
room. She took note of the time and stopped at the kitchens, ordering two
meals to be brought to her room.
As she entered her room she saw Elewen reading by the windows. "Suilad
nin sell, I thought I would find you here. I am glad you still feel you can
come to me when you are troubled."
Elewen jumped up from the chair and ran to Ilweran, embracing her in a hug.
"Suilad amme" Elewen said looking up at Ilweran "I am so confused, I
have upset my best friend, and don't know what to do." She said, Silent rears
trickling down her face, Elewen willed the tears to stop, but they wouldn't,
the more she thought of Sammy, and how she had hurt her, the more they came.
Ilweran led Elewen to a chair, "Havo dad Elewen; Elrond has talked to me, he told me about yours and Sammy's quarrel."
"He has?" Elewen looked at Ilweran in confusion, "how did he know?"
"Sammy ran into Glorfindel, literally, knocked him right over from what
I heard." Elewen smiled at the thought of Glorfindel being run over by her
friend. "He got Haldir to take her back to her room, he then went straight
to see Elrond. He was to see you neth min, and while he was with you, Elrond
came to see me. Seems you have managed to stir up a hornets nest nin sell."
Ilweran said smiling.
"I'm sorry, amme. I had no idea Sammy would react that way."
Ilweran's face became more stern. "Elewen, you cannot believe that; you
two are as close as sisters, if not closer. Now tell me what is on your mind
child."
"You said, you wouldn't sail to ada, because you didn't want to abandon
me. I thought that if I were to sail with you, you wouldn't be abandoning
me. I only want to make you happy again amme."
"Oh Elewen" Ilweran said hugging her silly daughter, "I am happy. Just
the ability to call you daughter, and to hear you call me amme, makes me
happy, happier than I have been in years."
"But I see the sadness in you eyes, whenever you talk about ada or think of him." Elewen protested.
"Yes nin sell, I am sad, but I would be sad in Valinor as well, whenever I thought or spoke of you."
"But don't you see, amme," Elewen said excitedly "If I was to sail with you, then you would not have to be sad at all."
The older elf woman put her hands on the sides of the other's face, forcing
her to look her in the eyes and see the truth there. "Elewen, it is not your
time, your time will come. The only elf I know sailing in the coming days
is Lady Celebrian. I am not sailing and neither are you. End of discussion,
understand."
Elewen was about to say something, but Ilweran just raised and eyebrow
and glared at her daughter, Elewen knew when she was defeated, she closed
her mouth and sat back in her chair.
"And no sulking Elewen, it is unbecoming, of a daughter of a king."
This time Elewen was definitely going to say something, when she was
interrupted by a knock at the door. Ilweran answered the door, Elewen saw
her point to the table, and she watched as an elf from the kitchens brought
a tray of food into the room and set it down on the table. The elf then turned
and bowed to Ilweran and Elewen before exiting the room.
Ilweran saw the confusion on Elewen's face, " I thought we could eat
here, and talk at the same time. I know you missed your noon meal."
"How did you know I would be here?" Elewen asked
"I went to your room and when it was empty, I thought about where you
would be, and took a guess that you would be here, so I stopped off at the
kitchens first to order us a meal."
Elewen just looked at her mother, shook her head and smiled, "I suppose
that is why I waited here, I knew you would come back here eventually. Why
am I surprised I do not know, for if I think about tit, I do end up in your
rooms often, especially when I need to talk about something."
Ilweran smiled. "Now nin sell, come eat something and tell me, about
your discussion with Sammy. And maybe between us, we can decide on how to
fix this mess you have created."
Glorfindel sat across from Sammy. "Ok Sammy, Haldir said you wanted to speak with me, what's on your mind neth min?"
Sammy looked at Glorfindel, not sure where to start, she looked over at Haldir, who still seemed to be in a state of shock.
Glorfindel chuckled softly to himself, "Don't worry about Haldir, Sammy. I just told him about Elewen."
"Oh" Sammy said laughing quietly remembering her own reaction. "Sit down, Haldir. It is a lot to take in nin toron."
"If its right by you, I think I will go for a walk." Haldir said leaving the room before the other two could say goodbye.
"He seems pretty shaken up, maybe we should go after him?" Sammy said
to Glorfindel, who shook his head said and replied, " He'll be better soon.
Elladan took the news even worse and he is fine. Now Sammy, talk. What is
going on inside that head of yours?"
"I don't want Elewen to sail with Ilweran. I fear that I would die from grief if she went, and-"
"And what Sammy?" Glorfindel asked softly.
"Oh Glorfindel, I hurt her with what I said, I didn't mean it, I was angry and upset, I wasn't thinking."
Glorfindel just nodded, "I thought that is what was bothering you, your
first real quarrel isn't it?" Sammy just nodded. "Well firstly, let me tell
you, I have spoken to Elewen, and yes, she was hurt, but she understands
that you were upset. Secondly, who says that Ilweran is going to sail, and
third and finally, Elewen will not sail, because it is not her time. Lord
Elrond and myself will not agree to let her sail." Then winking at Sammy,
"We will tie her up if we have to till the boats sail."
Sammy let out a little laugh, "She would not like that, Glorfindel, no not at all."
"I would think not. Sammy its up to you now, you have to convince Elewen
about all the reasons why she should stay. I know that she really does not
want to leave Middle-earth and most importantly, she does not want to leave
you. Be sure she doesn't convince you to go with her." Glorfindel said smiling.
"You need not fear there, Glorfindel, there is still a lot more to see and do in Middle-earth before I am ready to sail."
Glorfindel got up and hugged Sammy, and kissed her forehead, "No we can't
separate the terrible twosome, it would be like trying to separate Elladan
and Elrohir." Glorfindel said as he walked out the door.
Glorfindel struck his head back inside the door, "Sammy are you coming
to dinner, or are you planning on not eating at all today."
Sammy jumped up and followed Glorfindel. Glorfindel reached over linked
his arm through Sammy's, "Shall I escort you to dinner My lady?" he said
smiling down at her.
Sammy smiled up at Glorfindel, "Glorfindel, what would Elewen and I do with out you?"
"Probably starve," he joked as they went to the dinning hall.
CHAPTER 38
The door opened and two identical faces appeared, "Shh, you'll wake her up" Elladan said to Elrohir.
"Isn't that what we are going to do anyway?" Elrohir said looking at his brother.
"Yes but I want to surprise her. It's been awhile since we had a chance
to do that, she has been away in Lothlorien for far too long."
Elrohir grinned at his brother, and motioned to Elladan three fingers,
Elladan grinned in glee and nodded. On the count of three the twins launched
themselves and landed on Elewen's bed, tickling the trapped she-elf under
the covers.
Elewen yelled in fright and tried to get up but couldn't under the weight of the twins.
The twins howled with glee as Elewen, fought back, and called them every
name under the sun she could think of with growing volume.
"Ai, Elladan, Elrohir get off, I know it's you."
The twins sat back and pulled the covers free, looking at a very dishevelled
elf maid." Quel amrun nin seler," The twins said in unison.
Elewen just growled, at the twins grabbed the sheets, and pulled them over her head, "Go away." She said from under the sheets.
"No, time to get up Elewen tis a beautiful day outside, you must come share it."
Elewen threw back the sheets and grabbed the nearest thing she could
find, which was a cushion and flung it at the twins, who both ducked in unison.
At that precise moment Sammy, running through the door to see what all the
noise was about, was struck in the face by that same cushion.
"Oh Sammy." Elewen's hand flew to her mouth, "I'm sorry. That cushion
was meant for those two creatures over there." Elewen pointed to Elladan
and Elrohir who were now hiding in the opposite corner.
Sammy picked up the cushion, and looking at Elewen, pointed at the boys
off to her left. "Those two horrible creatures there" she asked smiling.
Elewen nodded. Sammy grinned at Elewen and barely turning threw the cushion
at them, before jumping onto the bed, she said to Elewen, "Arm yourself nin
mellon"
Armed with pillows, both girls leapt off the bed and attacked Elladan and Elrohir.
"Ah, pillow fight," Elrohir yelled out, as he managed to grab a couple more pillows throwing one to Elladan.
The pillow fight ensued for a few minutes. They didn't notice the door
open, or see Glorfindel and Elrond look in on to see what all the yelling
was about. "Will they ever grow up?" Elrond asked Glorfindel, as he closed
the door on the ruckus.
Glorfindel just shook his head and chuckled, "We were once like that nin mellon, do you remember?"
"Yes, Glorfindel I remember" Elrond sighed.
Suddenly there was a loud crash, from the room, Elrond threw open the
door to see what had happened, and saw four exhausted elves sprawled on the
bed, which was now lying on the floor.
Elrond sighed and looked at Glorfindel, "There my friend, lies the future"
Glorfindel laughed, "No nin mellon, only the next generation."
Elrond and Glorfindel looked at each other turned on their heels and left the room.
"What did Glorfindel mean, of course we're the next generation." Sammy was asked.
"We are apparently the second generation of elves to trouble their elders
more than the rest; Gil-galad, Glorfindel, Elrond and Ilweran were the first."
Elewen explained.
"Ah, so it was a compliment" Sammy said pleased.
'Yes nin mellon, it was" Elewen replied.
"Well, seeing you are now awake, we shall leave you to get changed. See
you in the dinning hall." Elladan said as he pulled Elrohir off the bed,
"Come on nin toron, let us go wake up Arwen"
Sammy made to follow the twins out of the room, when Elewen called to
her. "Sammy will you stay for a moment." Sammy turned and came back into
the room, and sat on the bed next to Elewen. "Sammy I am sorry about upsetting
you yesterday, I did not think properly before talking with you. I really
do not wish to Leave middle earth, but I also do not like seeing Ilweran
so sad."
Sammy hugged Elewen, "All is forgiven sister of my heart, but I also
must apologise for what I said. I did not mean it, I was upset and angry,
it just came out"
Elewen now hugged Sammy, "And I forgive you sister of my heart, for I know I could never be happy separated from you."
Sammy smiled, then laughed, "Lets hope we have very understanding husbands,
when we eventually marry nin mellon, let us hope that they are good friends
too."
Elewen laughed, "Oh Sammy it will be along time before either of us think
about marriage, unless you have your eye on someone." Elewen grinned at Samrendiel.
"No nin mellon, there is no-one, You would know, for I would tell you, for In would not be able to keep it from you."
After changing, they met the twins in the dinning hall, and a very miffed Arwen,
"I see tithen seler, that you got the famous, Rivendell wake up as well."
Arwen just nodded, still sleepy and very angry. Elewen gave her foster sister
a wide berth, and sat down next to Sammy.
Later on that morning, Elewen and Sammy were walking in one of the gardens,
"Elewen we need to talk, there are some things that need to be addressed,"
Sammy said to seriously
"Yes Nin mellon, I know." Elewen knew this was coming, but did not relish the conversation she believed was ahead.
Samrendiel's expression was stern but full of love. "Ok firstly, will
you stop this silly idea of sailing, you know it is not you time, and I would
die from grief if you left Middle-earth, I think I would quickly know how
Ilweran feels about missing Gil-galad, or how Lord Elrond will be after Lady
Celebrian sails." Elewen frowned at Sammy, but Sammy continued. "Also nin
mellon, don't you think that if Ilweran did sail, she would want time alone
with Gil-galad?"
"You do have a point there, Sammy, but."
"You still think you should sail, I know. So you must speak with Ilweran,
talk with her about it, tell her how you feel - I mean really feel. Perhaps
if you give her your permission she will think more about sailing."
"My permission." The dark haired elf asked perplexed.
"Yes, Elewen your permission. It may be that she would feel less like
abandoning you if she knew you were truly at peace with her going. And you
have known Ilweran all your life, is your relationship really going to change
all that much now that you know she is your mother?"
"No, I suppose it won't. You do make sense Sammy, but will Ilweran listen, or will she stay and remain sad, or will she sail."
Samrendiel shook her head and sighed. "Elewen, these are not the only
boats, there have been and will be others. I asked Lord Cirdan about it and
he said that he could have more ships ready to sail within six months, if
needed that quickly. But what is six months, nin mellon when you have been
waiting for over two thousand years."
"You are right, Sammy. Elewen smiled. " I will speak with Ilweran later, and Sammy will you be with me this time."
"Of course Elewen, if you wish me there I will be."
"I wish you there nin mellon, I truly do, I think I will need your strength and support with this."
CHAPTER 39
Glorfindel visited Ilweran in her room to invite her for a walk in the
gardens It was a truly a beautiful day. The twins were not wrong when they
woke Elewen and Arwen telling them it was a day not to be missed.
Elrond did not mind Elladan and Elrohir waking Elewen so boisterously,
as he knew Elewen could defend herself against those two. But when they did
the same to Arwen, it annoyed him to no end, and he let them know it. They
were to old to be punished like elflings nor could they be banned from the
festivities that were planned, so he found other not so pleasant duties to
occupy their hours before the evening activities.
Elewen and Sammy, left to themselves, were already in the gardens enjoying
the sunshine, and the chance to talk privately. They did not see or hear
Glorfindel and Ilweran approaching.
"Oh Sammy, somedays I wish we had just stayed in Lothlorien. I wish I
had never learnt of my heritage, or of Ilweran being my mother. It was easier
living in ignorance." Elewen quietly finished her tirade to her friend. Sammy
just listened, as she had whenever the topic came up, which was often, with
concern showing on her face.
"Come now nin mellon do not be like that, you know yourself, you always
wanted to know your past. How many times have you pleaded to Valar to know
exactly what you know now?"
"Yes Sammy, but look at all the trouble it has caused. Ilweran is so
sad. She won't sail because of me. There may be other reasons, but I know
I am a big reason why she won't sail and be reunited with Gil-galad." Elewen
hugged the elf maid she loved as a sister, "You know I don't want to leave
you; but it's not right, they being separated all this time."
Sammy hugged Elewen, "We will find out, when we ask her; now cheer up.
The day is bright and beautiful and there is a feast tonight as well."
Cirdan had organised a series of minor feasts in the days before the
ships were to sail to welcome those elves that were arriving at the havens
every day, as well as help to say goodbye to those leaving. The main feast
would not be till the eve of departure though.
"Oh great!" Elewen said rolling her eyes; "Dress time again."
Sammy laughed, "Oh Elewen tis not all that bad. Putting on skirts once
in a while will not kill you. I am actually looking forward to it myself.
Now please cheer up, your melancholy mood is starting to affect me too."
Elewen leant over and gave Sammy another quick hug, "I am sorry nin mellon,
I do not want to spoil your fun. How about if I let you decide what I shall
wear tonight, I do not care. I truly am not in the mood for a feast."
As the two elf maids left the bench to wander more of the garden, Glorfindel
looked at Ilweran, concern written all over his face. "First the twins and
now Elewen, and seems Sammy will be in a melancholy mood soon too, if we
don't do something."
"What do you suggest Glorfindel, I have no ideas, and it pains me to
hear Elewen so sad." Ilweran replied dejectedly. "I don't think I've heard
her so." she trailed off searching for words.
"Ah nin mellon, I have a plan: tonight at the feast." Glorfindel's voice trailed off as they walk back into the house.
Later that evening. Samrendiel answered the knock at Elewen's door. She
looked out to see Elladan and Elrohir standing in the hallway, looking gloomy
and depressed. "Are you ladies ready?"
Sammy opened the door wider. "Hello, have you seen Haldir? He was supposed
to be here already. Elewen will be ready in a minute; she is just finishing
her hair, I think. Be warned she is not in a happy mood."
"Well that makes three of us' we shall be a perfect trio," Elrohir piped
up glumly. Sammy quickly turned away to hide her knowing grin. She had heard
how they had spent their day and why. But it was Elladan who replied to her
question as he and his brother entered the room. "The Lady and Lord of the
Galadhrim send their apologies. They know you were looking forward to spending
time with him this evening, but they have need of Haldir at the moment. He
hopes to join you later on this evening. If it pleases you, we will escort
you and our dear sister tonight." He bent lightly from the waist in a half
bow.
Just then Elewen called from the other room, "Who is it Sam?"
Sammy smiled, "Two horrible creatures to escort us to the feast."
There all done, my Lady." Elewen stood, thanked the maid that was helping
her, and joined those in the sitting room. Though in a better mood than earlier
that day, she was still in no mood for a feast. "C'mon lets get this over
with." She walked to the door and opened it ,"Suiliad nin torni, shall we
go?" Then linking her arm through Elladan's Elewen walked out the door, leaving
Sammy and Elrohir to follow.
"My lady" Elrohir said to Sammy offering his arm.
"Why thankyou, my lord" Sammy said laughter in her voice as she linked
her arm through Elrohir's. Together they followed the other pair to the feast.
The meal now over, guests were mingling, The twins, were sitting alone
at a table and Elewen and Sammy, stood alone in a corner, talking quietly,
occasionally dancing when asked. All four were obviously in less than a festive
mood.
Elrond looked over at them, shook his head, and searched for Glorfindel.
"What is wrong with those four over there" Elrond asked when he located the
elf in question, pointing to the twins and the girls.
"They are not feeling very festive. Elewen is worried about Ilweran and
the boys are still depressed about their punishment from this morning's activities.
But do not worry Elrond, Ilweran and I have a plan," Glorfindel said winking
at Elrond.
Elrond groaned and shook his head; " I do hate to see them so melancholy
while everyone else is not. What are yo- no better to leave me out of this,
excuse me please." He continued to greet one of the shipwrights who had arrived
earlier that evening.
Elewen and Sammy did not notice that their goblets were full again, Glorfindel winked at Ilweran who tried not to laugh.
Elrond looked over at his friends, raised an eyebrow, Glorfindel put
a finger to his lips. Elrond turned back to talk to the elf he was talking
to; he did not want to know what Glorfindel and Ilweran were up to.
Glorfindel looked for the wine-steward he had talked too earlier. The
steward had walked past the party when he caught the Elf Lord's glance and
he nodded.
Glorfindel winked at Ilweran, as she joined him, who tried not to laugh.
Hearing that smothered sound, Elrond looked over at his friends raising an
eyebrow. Glorfindel put a finger to his lips and winked. Elrond pointedly
turned back to talk to the elf he was talking to; he did not want to know
what Glorfindel and Ilweran were up to. Sammy and her friends did not notice
that their goblets were once again full.
The night was wearing on; Elladan looked down at his full goblet and
pondered its contents. "Didn't I just empty this? ' Good behaviour' ada said.
Best behaviour, I'm sure he meant. He keeps looking at us like we're going
to pull a prank any minute." The goblet he stared into was full again and
a thought came to him; he looked over at Ilweran suspiciously. She was talking
to Glorfindel and another elf he had not met before. When she felt eyes on
her she turned, and seeing Elladan looking at her, smiled at him.
Elewen walked over to the twins with Sammy in tow, both girls swaying
slightly. "Something is amiss here nin toron." Elewen said to Elladan
"I agree nin seler, have you noticed our goblets never empty."
Elrohir spoke up his speech ever so slightly slurred, "Why worry, the
wine is good, the music comforting, and the company, excellent."
Elladan and Elewen laughed at Elrohir, "Why worry, the wine is good,
the music comforting, and company, now that it is more than just grumpy here,
is excellent."
Elladan chuckled at Elrohir. "Very true nin toron," he said slapping
his brother on the back, which unbalanced Elrohir, who had stood at the girls'
arrival making him fall into the girls' arms and making them all laugh.
Glorfindel leant over and whispered to Ilweran, "It is good to hear them laugh, but I think we night have over done it."
Ilweran nodded, "Aye it is good to hear them laugh, nin mellon, but I fear we will be carrying them to their beds tonight."
"Carry who?" asked an elf who had just walked up unseen behind Ilweran
and Glorfindel. Upon hearing the voice, a look of guilt and unease crept
over Ilweran's face, without turning around she said, "Hello Haldir, so glad
you could get away and join us at last."
Glorfindel also did not turn and face the elf from Lothlorien, but answered
by pointing to the four who had just dissolved into laughter again at the
table in the corner.
Haldir shook his head and sighed quietly, "Oh Eru."
Glorfindel, finally able to wipe the look of dismay off his face turned
to Haldir. "I am sorry Haldir. I did not mean for this to happen." Haldir
looked at the older elf in confusion. "I - We did this," he nodded at Ilweran
and indicated the giggling quartet.
Haldir looked past the elves in front of him and saw his sister saying
something to Elewen who laughed again. He saw Glorfindel wave away the wine-steward
that was coming to refill their goblets. "And here I was worried she would
miss me." He said it under his breath, but the other elves heard him anyway.
"She did miss you," Ilweran replied. "All four of them," she nodded to
the table, "did not want to be here, fro various reasons. We tried to help
them relax a bit, but I think we over did it."
Haldir started laughing. "I agree, but I am glad others watch out for Samrendiel besides myself. Thankyou both."
The festivities seemed to be winding down, as the hall was more than
three-quarters empty, when Glorfindel walked over to the group of inebriated
young elves. He attempted to usher them out the door, but they were not ready
to leave. Glorfindel closed his eyes, took a deep breath remembering he caused
this, then looked at them. "Do you intend to come peacefully, or not?" He
asked. He could not keep a smirk off his face, as he recalled a similar incident
in his past, when that question was directed at him.
The smirk turned into a hastily concealed smile as he heard the same
answer he and his friends gave to the same question. "Don't be stupid Glorfindel,
of course we intend to resist," Elewen said, "Just give us a moment please."
The four looked at each other and stood up. They had problems getting
to their feet and began to giggle. As one they turned towards Glorfindel
and promptly fell over, landing in an undignified heap on the floor. They
then burst out again into loud uncontrollable laughter.
Glorfindel just stood there hands on hips shaking his head. Ilweran came
up to him laughing "Told you so nin mellon, though it makes my heart glad
to see them so merry." Haldir agreed with Ilweran.
So focused on helping the young elves off the floor, they did not hear
Elrond and Celebrian returning from their garden stroll, "What is going on?"
Elrond asked sternly looking at the scene in front of him.
Glorfindel and Ilweran exchanged a guilty look before facing their Lord
and Lady. "Well, we did cheer them up," Glorfindel said, uncertain how his
friend and Lord would take the inebriation of his children.
"So I see," Elrond said as he rubbed his forehead. "I am sorry," he said
to his wife "Ilweran, will you escort Celebrian to her room please?" As his
wife and fellow healer left the hall Elrond pondered how three elves were
to get four to their rooms.
Glorfindel and Haldir had just helped the girls onto one of the benches,
when they heard, "Cirdan! Wonderful feast tonight and Hirgalad so glad you
stopped by. Might I impose upon both of you for awhile? Hirgalad, could you
run and get my medicine bag and meet us near their rooms? Lord Cirdan, if
you would, could you help us attempt to get these foolish elflings to bed?"
Cirdan looked at the four elves in front of him then back at Elrond and Glorfindel.
"What happened here?" he asked with a half grin on his face.
Elrond pointed at Glorfindel and said "Don't ask me, he is the mastermind behind this."
Glorfindel looked sheepish, "Well, Ilweran and I," he began, easily willing
to share the blame in this, "thought they all needed some help cheering up,
but I fear that we might have overdone it somewhat."
"I'd say so" Cirdan replied, "Ilweran? You said Ilweran was part of this? I might have known." Cirdan said shaking his head.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Glorfindel asked bristling slightly as he readied himself to defend his friend.
"Calm down Glorfindel, all I meant was, you three get you heads together trouble is sure to follow.""
"You can count me out of this one. This time Cirdan, I am here to help clean up, so to speak."
Haldir, who had been watching Elewen and Sammy trying to make a pillow
of her hands while the other talked now, spoke up. "My lords I think we should
really get them to bed."
"Yes of course Haldir, if you will look after Samrendiel, Glorfindel you take Elewen, and Cirdan and I will take a twin each."
After managing to get all four young elves to stand, the four elder elves
found that they were going to have a problem getting them to walk.
Glorfindel and Haldir found it easier to just pick the girls up and cradle
them in their arms, while Elrond and Cirdan, slowly got Elladan and Elrohir
walking.
With a lot of stumbling and cursing they finally made it to the twins rooms.
After leaving Elewen to her maids, Glorfindel went to the suite the twins
shared, to give them a hand. "Glorfindel if you will help Cirdan with Elladan
then Elrohir, I will go and make the hangover cure, seeing as this was not
there fault."
Glorfindel mumbled under his breath, "I can't remember the last time
I had to help get the twins into their night attire, it has been many hundreds
of years."
On the way to Lady Celebrian's chambers, Ilweran briefly explained the
inebriated state of her children and friends, but when Hirgalad passed them
at a run Celebrian asked to be shown to the girl's rooms instead; the men
would be little help there. So it was when Glorfindel left, Ilweran and the
maid had assisted Elewen into bed then went to aid Sammy. Lady Celebrian
wanted to help but as politely told no. She looked rather crestfallen, but
when Ilweran asked, "Will you sit with Elewen till Elrond comes with his
potion?" Celebrian smiled again, glad to be able to be of some assistance.
When Elrond entered Elewen's bedroom with his cure he was surprised to
see his wife stroking the fine hair away from the girl's sleeping face. "Celebrian,
nin meleth what are you doing here?" he asked
"Peace nin meleth, I am just watching over her till you came that is all."
Elrond gave her an assessing look. As she did not look any more fatigued
than usual he asked. "Will you help me sit her up, she must drink all of
this."
Celebrian and Elrond sat up the sleepy elf maid and placed the goblet
to her lips. "Drink nin sell, this will make you feel better in the morning."
Elewen took a sip and pulled a face, "Yuck ada take it away it is bitter."
"I am sorry nin sell but you must drink it all."
Reluctantly Elewen swallowed the bitter potion, to the last drop. Elrond
lay her back down, and making sure she was comfortable, lightly kissed her
on the forehead, "Quel kaima, nin sell" he said as he and Celebrian left
the room.
"Now for Sammy, would you assist me again nin meleth," Elrond asked Celebrian.
"With pleasure, these poor elflings, what were Glorfindel and Ilweran
thinking." Celebrian sighed as they entered Sammy's room to find Haldir hovering
over his sister.
"Haldir, I have the potion for Sammy, it will make her feel a lot better
in the morning, do you wish to give it to her, or shall I?"
"I will give it master Elrond, thankyou."
"Just make sure she drinks the whole goblet, it is quite bitter."
"Yes I know my lord," he chuckled "I have had the potion once before, it is not very nice." Haldir finished ruefully.
Elrond and Celebrian made their way to the twin's room. "My poor boy's"
Celebrian said, not missing the pan Glorfindel tried to hide under the bed.
She glared at the blonde elf, but little malice was in her eyes.
"Celebrian, do not be angry at Glorfindel he was only trying to cheer
them up, and it would not be the first time they have had to much wine."
Elrond said smiling at his wife, "Nor will it be the last, I do not doubt.
They have had this potion before," he winked at her, 'They know what to expect.
Glorfindel, help me sit them up, if you please." He passed into the room
on the right without waiting for a response.
