An Inkling challenge in response to all the poetry challenges.....
Ok for those of you that aren’t poets, here’s a little writing exercise for you. I will give you a setting out of LOTR. Your job is to come up with some action to fill in the scene. You may add characters, remove characters, make it funny or serious descriptive, narrative, or conversational…whatever you like BUT You must take only an hour to do it. Please don’t take this to mean you have only an hour from now to post it. No, it means you can take no more than an hour to write it. Can be short or long whatever…Can even make a poem though we have seen a lot of those kinds of challenges lately. Anyway, for those of you that have never Inkling’d before, this is a chance to try your wings. For those of you who do, it is a chance for a little fun. For those of us suffering from muse-on-holiday-it is, this is a chance to get juices flowing.
Anyway. For those of you who are up to it, here is the scene.
From The Fellowship of the Ring The Ring goes South
Gandalf walked in front, and with him went Aragorn, who knew this land even in the dark. The others were in file behind, and Legolas whose eyes were keen was the rearguard. The first part of their journey was hard and dreary, and Frodo remembered little of it, save the wind. For many sunless days an icy blast came from the Mountains in the east, and no garment seemed able to keep out its searching fingers.
So that's it. Set your piece in this setting and have fun. I look forward to seeing the results.
