Chapter 3: Will You Take Me To Rivendell?

As Bella sat there transfixed at the sight of the Elves two of them stopped to talk to Gandalf and Arador. Their beauty stunned her; their skin seemed to glow like moonlight even during the day. Their long dark hair was done up in elaborate plaits and the elf-maid had ribbons laced throughout hers.

"Elen sila lumenn omentilmo, Gandalf," said the male elf and then he turned to Arador. "Cormamin lindua ele lle, Arador in Dúnedain."

"Nae saian luume', Findecáno Ancalimë," Arador responded to the elf. "Vanimle sila tiri, Inwë Ancalimë."

The elf-maid then turned her ethereal blue eyes on Bella and said, "Mani naa essa en lle?"

"She does not understand you Inwë. Bella this is Inwë Ancalimë and her brother Findecáno. They are from Rivendell and are heading to the Grey Havens," Arador said quickly. "Inwë. Findecáno. This is Belladonna Took. She has decided to join Gandalf and I on our journey today."

Inwë turned to Bella and said, "You must make Arador and Gandalf take you to Rivendell. Arwen would adore meeting you."

With that the two elves clasped hands and walked away just as suddenly as they appeared. "Why are they going to the Grey Havens Gandalf? Are they taking a holiday?" Bella asked sincerely.

"No my dear Bella, they are leaving Middle Earth." Gandalf stated sadly. "You shall never see either of them again, I am afraid."

Bella didn't know what to say. It was the saddest thing she had ever heard. She couldn't understand why they would want to leave Middle Earth. She certainly didn't ever want to leave her family or friends. At that thought he mind immediately went to Bungo and she felt like crying. But that only stiffened her resolve to have a big adventure with her two new friends. Suddenly she looked up at Gandalf and said quite strongly," So you ARE going to take me to Rivendell, right Gandalf?"

Chapter 4: Off To Rivendell

"Bella do you think it is wise to just decide spontaneously to travel to Rivendell?" Gandalf inquired. "Shouldn't you consult with your parents first?"

"No, I don't think I should have to consult with them," she stated angrily. "They didn't consult with me before banning me from spending time with Bungo. It is all over some stupid argument between Bungo's father and mine. I don't think they even remember why they were arguing in the first place. I sure don't. It was something trivial I believe."

"Let them worry for once," she thought to herself as she gathered up her apple and small backpack.

"Bella, you realize that it is about a two week walk from here to Rivendell?" Arador asked. "There aren't many inns to spend the night in between here and there. We will probably have to sleep on the ground several nights. And you have no other clothes."

"I understand, Arador. I don't care." Bella said vehemently "I really want to go. My gaffer Bullroarer loved adventures. I also love nothing more than meeting new people and seeing different places."

"All right, little one," Arador laughed, "We will go to Rivendell. That is if Gandalf doesn't object."

"I don't mind at all," Gandalf stated. "I do in fact see a lot of Bullroarer in this young hobbit. We should get moving then, it is already after noon.

Gandalf and Arador gathered up all of their possessions and placed everything in their packs. The three travelers then proceeded east. As the day wore on Bella started to feel the strain of walking all day, but she would never admit her weariness to her companions. As she walked she noticed small changes in the trees, the different levels of the land in the Shire and the slight temperature differences.

In the meantime, back at the Great Smials Gero was in a panic. No one had heard from or seen Bella since she left that morning. "Where could she possibly have gone, Ada? Maybe she is over in Hobbitton with that Baggins boy." He was answering his own questions almost as quickly as he was asking them.

"Calm down, Gero!" Ada yelled. "Getting angry is not going to help get her back any faster! It is getting late and will be dark soon. If you are going to Hobbitton you should go soon."

"You are right, Ada, Gero sighed. Lets go boys. I'll be back with her soon, Ada."

As Gero and her sons run down the lane towards Hobbitton, Ada slumps down on the front step of the Smials and cried until she was to exhausted to cry any more.

Gero and his sons made it to Hobbitton just after suppertime. When they reached the gate in front of the Baggins home half of the Baggins family was already outside.

"What is going on here, Gero? Said Mungo Baggins. "Why are you rushing to get here? Is everything alright with your family?"

"Where is your son Bungo? Gero yelled. I need to speak with him now!"

"What is wrong, Mr. Took? Bungo asked from the doorway. Is there something wrong with Bella?"

"She hasn't been home all day and still wasn't there when we left. Have you seen her today?" Gero asked anxiously.

"No sir, I have been grounded since you were here two weeks ago. She didn't go off by herself, did she?" Bungo asked with a stricken look on his face.

"Yes, she went out for the first time in two weeks this morning. Why do you ask?"

Bungo paled noticeably and croaked, "Well the day we met the wizard and the strange man in the woods, the old wizard said he would come back through the Shire and show Bella magic and tell her stories of distant lands."

Gero gasped for breathe and clutched his heart, "Bella, NO!"
