Re: Sorry

Sorry to miss our date yesterday. I had to leave town unexpectedly with Mr. Frodo. Just a short trip to Bree. Should be home in a few days. Please ignore the other idiots until I come back.

Re: Re: Sorry

Sorry? I should think so! I waited an hour down by the old mill stream! You'd better not be checking out the barmaids at the Prancing Pony! Those big people are nothing but trouble! Make sure you stay away from them and come home soon.

Rosie

P.S. I understand there are good mushrooms out that way. Bring some back with you!

Re: Re: Re: Sorry

Uhhh... It looks like the trip will be a little longer. We ran into some trouble in Bree and are heading into the wilderness. Don't worry - we have a (hopefully) trusty native guide. We are going to Rivendell to finish Mr. Frodo's business and then will come back to the Shire. It shouldn't take long.

I really am sorry about the delay.

Sam

P.S. Merry and Pippin are with us too - would you let their families know? Thanks!

P.P.S. Had some mushrooms but had to throw them away. I'll look for more on the way back.

Re:Re:Re:Re: Sorry

I knew it! You were making eyes at the barmaids in Bree and got kicked out, right? And don't think I don't know what's at Rivendell! First Men and now Elves! Is this some sort of mid-life crisis thing? "Business trip" indeed. Tell Frodo that if he doesn't get back here soon the Sackville-Bagginses will move into Bag End and then where will you be gardening?

Rosie.

P.S. Don't worry about the mushrooms, just come home soon. I miss you.

P.P.S. The Tooks and Brandybucks both said there's been a farmer asking for the boys, so maybe you'd better keep them with you and out of trouble for a while.

Re:RE:Re:Re:Re: Sorry

What barmaids? You know I only have eyes for you! Mr. Frodo just has to deal with some of his inheritance is all. We're going to have a quick bite to eat here at Weathertop and head off in the morning. Should be at Rivendell in a week, get rid of the ri... er, take care of business, and then head for home. Three more weeks, tops. Tell the Sackville-Bagginses to stay out of Bag End!

See you soon (really!)

Yours ever -
Sam

P.S. Merry and Pippin say they don't know anything about missing vegetables and want to know if Farmer Maggot has stopped looking for them yet.

Re: This Trip

(please note new address)
I know it’s been a little while since I wrote. Things have gotten a bit out of hand. We ran into some undead kings just after I wrote to you at Weathertop and Mr. Frodo got hurt - well, stabbed - well, nearly killed. An elf named Arwen took him to Rivendell. Long story short, we’re staying here until he’s better. Right now I’m waiting for him to wake up. Once he’s up to it we should be able to head back to the Shire.

BTW - Mr. Bilbo is here too! He said to tell the Sackville-Bagginses to leave Bag End alone.

Yours,
Sam

P.S. Watch the mail - I sent you a postcard - this place is amazing!

Re: Re: This Trip

Oh dear! I knew something like this would happen when you left home. Well, not the undead kings part, but I just knew there’d be trouble. Hobbits belong in the Shire, not traipsing around the wilderness.

Arwen, hmmm? - sounds female. I suppose she’s very beautiful… What other sorts of people are you meeting there?

I’ll show the Sackville-Bagginses your message from Bilbo, but I doubt they’ll pay attention. You know they’ve wanted the place for years.

I’ll watch for the postcard, but I’d rather see you!

Re: Re: Re: This Trip

Mr. Frodo is awake and mending, so I hope to leave in a day or two. I can’t wait to get back to the Shire.

Yes, Arwen is female, but I don’t think she’s as pretty as you, and a bit tall for my taste. There are some Men here - including Strider, who’s been helping us since Bree - and there’s lots of Elves, of course. There’s one male elf with long blond hair that has all the maidens swooning. Didn’t quite catch the name - something about ‘legs’? Pippin says he saw some dwarves arrive but I think he must have been tasting the wrong sort of mushrooms, because I can’t imagine what they’d be doing here.

Well, one last meeting to go to and then we’ll probably head for home in another day or two.

As always,
Sam

Oh, you sweet-talker! Wrap up your meetings and let me know when you’re heading back.

Glad to hear Frodo is better.

Rosie

P.S. Will Merry and Pippin be with you? Tell them to lay off the mushrooms and keep out of trouble at least until you’re all back here.

P.P.S. Your postcard arrived today. Love the waterfall.

Re: Oops!

You’re not going to believe this. We had this big meeting (there were even dwarves there; I must apologize to Pippin for doubting him) and, well, Mr. Frodo and I kinda offered to continue on with this mission - quest - thing. Anyway, we should be quite safe because Gandalf and Strider will be with us. (Get this - Strider’s really a king in disguise! He sure had me fooled!) Then there’s another Man, that blond elf, a dwarf, oh and Merry and Pippin.

Anyway, I think this is going to take a little longer than we originally planned. Believe me, I wouldn’t do this if it wasn’t important. Hope you can be patient just a bit more.

Re: Rosie?

Are you still there? Did you get my last message? We’re leaving in the morning for - well, I’m not really sure of the route, Gandalf’s taking care of that.

Please answer.

Re: Re: Rosie?

Yes, I’m here, which is more than I can say for you. This started out as a short trip to Bree and now look at you! Hanging out with kings and elves and dwarves! What gives?? Can’t they take care of this stuff without hobbit help? And Gandalf - isn’t he the guy with the fireworks? That should come in real handy if you run into trouble! Honestly! I hope that Arwen woman is going with you - you need some female sense along.

Well, I guess I can wait - at least a little while longer. Take care of yourself, and Frodo too. Is he all over his wound? Don’t tell him this, but the Sackville-Bagginses are moving into Bag End - “just until Frodo returns” - hah!

Re: On the Road

(please note new address)
This traveling is hard. Strider never lets us stop between breakfast and supper. We tried to explain to him about second breakfast, etc., at Rivendell after the first part of the trip, but he just doesn’t listen. We’ve been walking for days and now Gandalf says that tomorrow we start climbing this big mountain. It’s covered in snow - I can hardly wait. The others all have boots on but us hobbits are going to have to go through it barefoot.

Boromir (that’s the other Man - boy, is he big!) is teaching us sword fighting along the way. Merry and Pippin are starting to get the hang of it, but I think I’ll stick with my pots and pans. Mr. Frodo is recovered from his wound, but I didn’t tell him about Bag End - no need to add to his worries.

Arwen isn’t with us - I think her father didn’t like the idea of her going with all us guys.

Yours - Sam

Re: Re: On the Road

Serves you right for going on this adventure in the first place. Next time something like this comes up, let someone else handle it, okay?

Merry and Pippin with swords??? I hope your accident insurance is paid up!!

Meanwhile, stick close to the Boromir guy. It sounds like he’s your best protection out there.

Rosie

P.S. Hope your feet do okay in the snow. Watch out for frostbite!

Re: Re: Re: On the Road

Well, the mountain didn’t work out. We got hit by a major blizzard and had to back off. Now we’re going to go through the mines of Moria. At least, we will if Gandalf can get the doors open. I’m writing this while he tries to figure out the password. Gimli, that’s the dwarf, has relatives here and says it’s a neat place, but personally I’d rather stay above ground. Still, it’s supposed to be a short-cut through the mountains so if it cuts some time off the trip I guess it will be worth it.

Oops! The doors are opening, so I’ll close for now. Should be through to the other side quickly and then I’ll write again.

Hurriedly,
Sam

Re: Re: Re: Re: On the Road

First mountains and now mines! You certainly are seeing the sights! I hope you’re paying attention so you can describe this all to me when you get home. Hope Gimli’s relatives showed you a good time while you were there.
