My dear old dad shares the household with my
sister and me, and ever since we joined the LotR community he also
shared endless viewings of the movies, shelves full of books, posters,
flags, pictures all around the house, action figures in every room,
including the bathroom, Weta busts and sculptures lined up in the
living room, LotR music (and nothing but that!) in the car, talks,
lectures, discussions around LotR on a daily basis, ringer friends from
all corners of the world visiting, LotR mugs, bed linen, swords, and
more action figures...and mind you, he greatly enjoyed it and never
complained about our obsession, hrrmmm, passion...
...and about two weeks ago I found him sitting in the kitchen, reading the LotR!!! In English!!! 0.0
My Dad is 80, he has not read a book for 20 years, since his eyes
got bad, and he learned English at school, some 70 years ago. And now,
whenever I find him reading he is totally drawn into the story, he does
not even reply when I talk to him. Sometimes he disappears in the
evening, and when I go to look for him he is in the kitchen, reading...
I think this is marvellous, and it really warms my heart. He says it is so wonderful to read the book, he is sorry that he never started any earlier, he just loves it, and it goes straight to his heart.
My dear Professor, thank you so much for giving that much joy to my dear, beloved old Dad...
