Mister Frodo left today. Merry, Pippin and I went along with Frodo to
take Bilbo to the Gray Havens to sail with the Elves to Valinor.
Gandalf came to the Shire in a wagon with Bilbo while the four of us
were on our ponies. Mister Frodo was able to talk and visit with Bilbo
along the way.
Bilbo was so happy when we got to the ship to leave with Lord Elrond and the Lady Galadriel.
Saying Good-bye to Gandalf was so hard. I tried not to show him how upset I was, but, he saw right through me.
As hard as it was to say Good-bye to Gandalf, I was totally unprepared
to find out that Frodo was going to leave too. Seeing him say Good-bye
to Merry and Pippin was awful. Saying Good-bye to Frodo for me was
Devastating.
I thought we would have many more years together as friends in the
Shire and that he would get to see and be "Uncle Frodo" to my children.
But, he had to leave. I have seen the effects our journey had on him
and I know it is better for him to have gone with the Elves now, rather
than for him to stay here and worsen little by little. But, that did
not make his leaving any easier to bear.
I will always carry the memory of the last smile I got from Frodo when he boarded the ship. I think he was finally at peace.
I was very thankful that Frodo had asked Merry and Pippin along with us
as I don't think I would have been able to stand riding back to the
Shire all by myself. I am sure he knew I would need them.
Now, life in the Shire must go on.

I returned home today. My fair Elanor ran out to greet me. She is so
precious. Rosie had the evening meal ready and welcomed me back. While
I have a terrible grief gripping my heart, I was so happy to return
home and see my family.
It was a very quiet, slow ride home as Merry, Pippin and I had so much
to think about. Frodo has been such a huge part of our lives in so many
ways for so long that it has been hard to think how we will go on
without him. Merry and Pippin were such a great comfort to me on the
ride home.
Frodo has been my best friend and brother in my heart for so long. Even
with my working for him, he never treated me as anything less than his
friend. Our journey to destroy the One Ring really brought us so much
closer. I know he hung on and didn't give up just for me at the end in
Mt. Doom. Such bravery I will never see again in my lifetime.
Merry and Pippin have returned to Buckland. It warmed my heart to hear
them singing as they went down the road. I hope I get to see them
often. I want to keep up with what's going on in their lives.
As for me, I look forward to Rosie and I having many more wonderful years together.
Now, life in the Shire goes on.
