Hope had Faded
Author's Note: This is just a
idea I got while reading the Two Towers. Hope you like it. Well, maybe
not like it. It's not really a likeable ficlet, unless you're some kind
of sadist. Maybe not. I don't know. Well, hope you read it, and it
makes you uncomfortable, at the least. Mmm, sad, too. ^.^
Warnings: Torture (not graphic, just
mentioned), character death (again, just mentioned, really)
“ 'My dear tender little fools,'
hissed Grishnákh, 'everything you have, and everything you know,
be got out of you in due time: everything! You'll wish there was more
that you could tell to satisfy the Questioner, indeed you will: quite
soon. We shan't hurry the enquiry. Oh dear no! What do you think you've
been kept alive for? My dear little fellows, please believe me when I
say that it was not out of kindness: that's not even one of
Merry slowly opened his eyes, and looked around.
Ah- so the orcs had finally given up questioning him.
They had tortured him, with their whips and their cruel devices,
but somehow he had managed to not tell them anything thus far. The last
thing he remembered was pain, and screaming: Pippin, screaming for them
to leave Merry alone, blending horrifically with Merry's own cries of
Pippin- where was Pippin now?
Merry sat up, and immediately regretted it as pain shot through every
inch of his body.
But worse than the physical pain were the sudden, horrid shrieks of
torment that now reached his ears.
Merry closed his eyes for a moment, sucking in a harsh breath.
They were torturing Pippin.
Bile rose in Merry's throat. He wanted desperately to help his friend,
but he knew that there was nothing he could do.
“Frodo! Frodo has the Ring!”
Merry's heart stopped, his blood running cold. They had broken Pippin,
and the Enemy would soon know all that he needed.
He sank back down to the floor in despair. He knew it was all
ended now. They would take what they eneded from Pippin, and then kill
both him and Merry. Then, Sauron would hunt Frodo down, and kill him as
He would take the Ring.
Hope had faded- forever.
