Sung originally to the tune of "Red, Red Wine" by Neil Diamond, a nice ballady kind of tune, but I was gently reminded by a dear friend(((Loth))) that it is also sung reggae style more recently by UB40. Sing it whichever way is most pleasing to thine own ear. I apologize in advance for my irreverency. I do adore Haldir, but he did choose to wear red on that fateful night.

Red, red cloak
Stay close to me
Keep me warm and safe
Here in Helm's Deep.

Red, red cloak
It's up to me
To lead my warriors
Fair Galadhrim are we
Here fulfilling our oath.

I'd have sworn
I'd be safe
If I wore
You on my back
I was wrong
Now I find
Something sharp
Sticking in me.

Red, red cloak
Stay close to me
Don't let me be alone
When forth I must go
West to Mandos.

- Calafalas

This would be a song sung by a elf-maid who loved Haldir and is reunited with him in Valinor after he passes through the Hall of Mandos.

Valinor
(aka Tir Na Nog by Van Morrison-apologies to Van and J.R.R.T.)

We were standing in the kingdom
And by the mansion gate
We stood enraptured by the silence
As the birds sang their heavenly song
In Valinor

We stopped in the woods of gold
And prayed to our lady
And climbed up the mountainside
With fire in our hearts
And we walked all the way to Valinor

I said with my eyes that
I recognized your chin
It was my long lost friend
To help me from another lifetime
We took each others hands and cried
Like a river when we said hello
And we walked to Valinor

We made a big connection
On a golden autumn day
We were standing in the garden wet with rain
And our souls were young again
In Valinor

And outside the storm was raging
At Helms Deep in the rain
You fought orcs and allied with men

Following the big sun in the west
Going up, going up, to
To the Halls of Mandos

You came into my life
And you filled me and you filled me
Oh so joyous
By the clear cool crystal streams
Where the roads were quiet and still
And we walked all the way
To Valinor

How can we not be attached
After we're immortal elves
The only way then is to never come back
Except I wouldn't want that would you
If we weren't together again
In Valinor

We've been together before
In a different incarnation
And we loved each other then as well
And we sat down in contemplation
Many many many times you kissed mine eyes
In Valinor

- Orangeblossom Took

Bowstring Pluckin' Haldir

tune: Pistol Packin' Mama

Let those bowstrings go, Babe.
Let those bowstrings go.
Bowstring pluckin' Haldir
Let those bowstrings go.

Oh, guarding trees in Lothlorien
Elves the only ones,
Until one night they caught a dwarf
And now it's on the run.

Oh, Let those bowstrings go, Babe.
Let those bowstrings go.
Bowstring pluckin' Haldir
Let those bowstrings go.

Oh, I'll sing to you every night, Ma'am
And I'll soothe you every day.
I'll be your regular Elf-guard
If you'll just get that dwarf away.

Oh, Let those bowstrings go, Babe.
Let those bowstrings go.
Bowstring pluckin' Haldir
Let that thing go before it goes off and hurts somebody!

But he kicked a hole in the very best flet
And he axe-swung near my head.
He cussed aside and said I lied
And he wished that I was dead!

Oh, Let those bowstrings go, Babe.
Let those bowstrings go.
Bowstring pluckin' Haldir
Let those bowstrings go.

We're three tough Elves
From deep down Lorien way,
No one but ourselves
And dwarves don't like the way we play.
We're a rough rootin tootin shootin near
And you ought to see our bro' Haldir;
He's a terror make no error
But there ain't no nicer terror
Here's what we tell him:

Let those bowstrings go, Babe.
Let those bowstrings go.
Bowstring pluckin' Haldir
Let those bowstrings go

That dwarf breathed so very loud
Before he ever came
Your draw was quick
To take a stick
And shishkebab the thing.

Let those bowstrings go, Babe.
Let those bowstrings go
Bowstring pluckin' Haldir
Let those bowstrings go

Oh, guarding trees in Lothlorien
Elves the only ones,
Until one night they caught a dwarf
And now it's on the run.

Oh, Let those bowstrings go, Babe.
Let those bowstrings go.
Bowstring pluckin' Haldir
Let those bowstrings go

Oh, bowstring pluckin' Haldir
Let those bowstrings go.

- Primula

To the Irish tune of Harrigan

H
A
L-D-I-R
Haldir is a guardian of Lothlorian,
Proud of all the Elvish blood within him,
and we know Aragorn won't go down agin him.
H
A
L-D-I-R
Shout it out and see,
It's his name in Sindarin,
And we all feel protected by
HALDIR
That's HE!

- Elanor Gamgee

He Died!
(tune: Rawhide!)

Keep movin', movin', movin',
Though he's disapprovin',
Keep them orcs a-movin', he sighed.
Don't try to understand 'em,
Just shoot 'em, throw, and stab 'em.
Soon we'll be aimin' high and wide.
His heart's calculatin',
Aragorn will be waitin',
Be waitin' at the turnin' of the tide.

Shoot 'em down, head 'em off,
Whack 'em off, trip 'em up,
Move 'em back, split 'em up, uruk-hai!
Rip 'em out, stab 'em in,
Poke 'em in, stomp 'em out,
Cut 'em out, push 'em down, uruk-hai!

Keep shootin', shootin', shootin',
You bet your darn a-tootin',
Keep them heads a-rollin', uruk-hai.
Through rain and wind and weather,
Metal dressed with leather,
Wishin' for ships out on the tide.
The things that he was keepin',
Good vittles, peace and sleepin',
Were waiting on those boats with the tide.

Move 'em back, chop 'em up,
Split 'em up, bring 'em on,
Turn an' shout, Oh look out!, he died!
Fall 'em back, bring 'em in,
Pull 'em in, let 'em shout,
It's a rout, say again: he died!
HE DIED!!!

- Primula

To the tune of Rudolph

Haldir the Blonde Haired Elf Lord,
Had a very tight strung bow.
And if you ever see it,
you should keep you head real low.

All of the other Elf Lords,
never laughed or called him names,
'cause they always knew that Haldir,
hit everything at which he aimed.

Then one troubled winter's eve,
the fellowship came to call,
but Haldir with his bow strung tight,
didn't shoot them at first sight.

Then how the Fellowship loved him,
except a dwarf named Gimli,
so Haldir the Blonde Haired Elf Lord,
you'll go down in hisssstorrrry!
-The Foe Hammer

A song, to ZZ Top's "Sharp Dressed Man"
Haldir, Sharp-Dressed Elf

Long gold hair, Regal air,
He ain’t missing a single thing
Silken tunics, Golden maille
When he steps out he’s gonna do them in
She-elves running just as fast as they can
Cause every she-elf’s crazy ‘bout a sharp dressed elf.

Flashy Armor, Red Cloak
Helm’s Deep is where he’s going to
Shiny sword, New Bow
Fightin’ the Darkness is his reason why
Orcs be running just as fast as they can
Cause every Orc’s a-worried ‘bout a sharp dressed elf
