Meanwhile Back at the Golden Wood

Ever wonder
what Galadriel was up to after she said farewell to the Company? Here's
a brief timeline, gleaned from the Tale of Years in the Appendix of
LOTR, with help from Michael Perry's book Untangling Tolkien.
February 17
Galadriel, having bid farewell to the Fellowship the day before, sends
Gwaihir the Eagle to search for Gandalf. He is found on Mount
Zirak-Zigal, and is carried to Lothlorien, where he recovers his
strength and is clothed in white by Galadriel.
March 7
While Frodo is being taken to Henneth Annun by Faramir, and Aragorn
approaches Dunharrow and the Paths of the Dead, Galadriel sends word to
Treebeard to warn him that she has foreseen Sauron's attack upon
Lothlorien.
March 11
While Gollum visits Shelob and Faramir heads for Osgiliath, Eastern
Rohan is invaded and Lorien is attacked by Sauron's forces issuing from
Dol Guldur. On the second day of the battle, the attacking force is
defeated by the Ents in Rohan.
March 16
While the Battle of the Pelennor rages, Lorien is attacked a second
time but the forces of evil are thrown back.
March 22
As the Host of the West slowly approaches Mordor, and Frodo turns
towards Mount Doom, Lorien is assaulted a third time, but stands firm.
March 28
While Frodo and Sam lie asleep, recovering from their ordeal, Celeborn
crosses the Anduin and destroys Dol Guldur.
"Three times Lórien had been assailed from Dol Guldur, but
besides
the valour of the Elven people of that land, the power that dwelt there
was too great for any to overcome, unless Sauron had come there
himself. Though grievous harm was done to the fair woods on the
borders, the assaults were driven back; and when the Shadow passed,
Celeborn came forth and led the host of Lórien over Anduin in
many
boats. They took Dol Guldur, and Galadriel threw down its walls and
laid bare its pits, and the forest was cleansed." (The Tale of Years)
