A Poem from Sam to Rose

- Vison

Little toes in cool water,
Giggling when minnows nibbled,
Laughing brown eyes
And dancing curls,
Even then, when I was ten
You were my love.

We walked together in the lanes
And you talked and I listened,
Just hearing your voice
Was enough for me.

The breeze and the blue sky
And moonflowers,
And a kiss beneath the trees.
In the cool quiet shade
You could hear my heart beat,
Beating for you.

Once I had to leave you,
Had to leave the dusty lanes
And the woodland walks.
Once I had to leave you
So that I could return.

In the dark places,
When I was afraid,
You were there in my heart,
I could see your sweet face
Hear your sweet voice
And your laughter.

Once I had to leave you,
So that I could return
To you and the woodland walks
And the dusty lanes
And the cool stream
Where minnows shimmer,
Little quicksilver fishes
In the little quick water
That tumbles laughing
Over smooth stones.

I walked the long road home
And did what was needed.
I had to leave you
So that I could return.
