- Silivren Ithildin

I must preface this poem by saying that the expression on Frodo's face when Sam says that he doesn't think there is going to be a return journey always gets to me and this is some of what I see going through Frodo's mind before he steels himself and gets up to go on with Sam.

What do my ears hear?
How can this be?
Sam has lost his belief.
Now I start to fear.

His belief in our return
had helped me keep going,
but, now he has lost it.
My emotions begin to churn.

Can I go the distance?
Can I bear this burden?
Will we make it?
Is there a chance?

I would feel better
if I knew Sam believed,
it would help me go on.
We have to be in this together.
