A Dark Poem for a weary mood

When darkness falls
And daylight stalls
And starlight fads from sight
The darkest days of midnight's might
Come unbidden through the haze

Weary are my eyes for night
With no stars or moon to light
The sky is dark
The land is stark

Lightless days
Moonless nights
A chill wind come from the East
Westward sinks the sun

Land is lost
The sea is dead
And all around is sorrow
And there shall be no more sun
No touch of wind
Ne'er again a tomorrow
