Heart of the Fellowship

Sometimes
I think I know
what Frodo felt…
He was a part
of the Fellowship
The heart of the Fellowship.
But he was
separate.
Kept apart by the
burden he
carried
And an
awareness of
destiny.

(Some of us are born
to think and
consider
too much.
To carry
sorrow
buried deep in
our heart.
Born to
mourn.)

When the ring
tinted his words
with impatience
and casual cruelty…
I’ve been there, too…

I carry my
whispered
temptations.
There is no
mountain of
fire
to silence them.

To be human,
is to be frail
and flawed.
Alone amid
the crowds.
Able also
to do good.
We are vessels full
of potential and
promise.

(Is this not the
true spine of
the story? The
potential and
promise?
The choice?)

May I fulfill my promise.
May we all fulfill our promise.
