Haunted by the Sea
“Legolas Greenleaf long under tree
In joy thou hast lived. Beware of the Sea!
If thou hearest the cry of the gull on the shore,
Thy heart shall then rest in the forest no more.”
Even in the
midst of
battle -
the waves
crashed.
Cries of
men and
orc -
sea birds
in the spray.
The brush of
an arrow’s
fletch as his cheek -
smelt of salt and
stranded kelp.
The barking of
wargs
flashing their fangs -
was the roar
of sea lions charging.
When victory
was won.
He was haunted
still.
Elessar’s eyes
brought soft fog
to his view.
And the blues
of the bride
were the deep of
the sea.
Greens became seaweed,
Gold the sun’s path
on the water,
Silver brought the
sheen of pearls…
Legolas Greenleaf was
lost to the woods.
The memories
buried deepest
Rise at
unexpected times.
