Contemplation on Bombadil


It occurs to me
that Tom is the
earliest
Transcendentalist!
A precursor to
Emerson,
a gentler Thoreau
and the roots
of Whitman…

Tom! Who knew
the past but
wasn’t bound by it!
Who the ring
couldn’t tempt!

Tom! The father of
a simplified
life!

I can hear the
sweetest of
Whitman’s words
tripping from
Tom’s mouth…
…”Clear and sweet
is my soul…”

Or maybe Tom
is the first
catalyst…
