The Stars that Play (I Did Not Forget)

- jan-u-wine

I
did not forget
them,
Sam,
nor
the sweet-mint,
ice-bitter waterof small Thistle-Brook.....

nor the way
the Sun,
in Her descent,
stretches
the shadows
through
the trees
you so love.

I did not
forget
how the Hill
smells
of a summer evening...

there,
with time halted
in the haze....

my eyes
surprised
by the tender
blueof the sky.

I did not forget
the roses
bending
their heads
to peer
through
the window's
round eye,
nor
the little ones,
rioting
like Spring –

mad
with laughter
and too
much Sun.

I did not forget
the tall
grey,
wise
silence
of trees who
looked
upon Elves.

No, Sam,
I
did not
forget
the stars that fell
to earth....the stars
that play
in fieldsof fairy light:

I did not forget
your
fire-flies.
