Frodo's Poem for Sam

- jan-u-wine

Sam.
I have only
to say
your name
and I
may feel
the
comfort which
is you:
solid
loyal
strong---
like the very roots
of this ancient
world-----
surround me.

Your love,
an old cloak-
familiar,
beautiful
in its
plain simplicity,
keeps me yet
from the deepening
night.

My friend,
how words
on a page
fail
to tell
our tale....
black scratches
on a field of white,
they can never
show you
my grateful heart.

The Creator Has
Heard....
did you know....
o, Sam,
that
is what your name
means.
yes, He heard.

He heard
my need
crying
in the darkness
and sent
you to me.

Have I told you,
Sam,
how you make me
laugh
even now.....

and how
your homely
wisdom
sustains
my shadowed
heart.

Here,
upon this Road
we shall die.
But I am glad,
Sam
that you
are with me
my friend
when all else
fades
to
nothing,
there is still
Sam.
