Beyond the Edge of the World

- jan-u-wine

On those days
when you were right,
I remember
how you
would laugh
and
sharea pipe
and a pint
like
anyone else.

I remember,
too,
when,
all alone,
you walked
the long length
of our Row,
cutting
through country-side
hushed with night,
quilted by stars.

I know
now
where
you were bound:
you have ever
longed
for them.

Oh.....
not with
my simple longing.

No.
Yours was ever
the longing
of blood
calling to blood,
heart
to heart,
kin
to close-held kin.

Do you imagine,
now,
that they
may yet heal you,
those
folk
with their quick,
fierce eyes
and their
sweet, liquid tongue?

Would you sail
beyond
the edge
of the world
for the bare
chance
that their Light
will best
your Darkness?

Would you,
could you
really
leave
me
behind again?
