Bilbo could not have known

- Isilmë

Bilbo could not have known,
how one small adventure,
would affect one of his own,
and what a fellowship would endure.

To a council all were summoned,
each brought with them their own reasoning.
And it was at the house of Elrond,
where the decision was made on the One Ring.

Boromir or Faramir,
to whom did the dream call?
Searching for Rivendell, growing wearier,
all to keep Gondor from the fall.

Samwise, Meriadoc and Peregrin,
the halflings from the 'shire.
Would they do it all again,
if they knew what would transpire.

Elessar, Elfstone, Aragorn,
a dunadan who should be king.
Under tattered clothes, looking time worn,
we all will rejoice at his crowning.

Gimli, son of Gloin and Legolas Greenleaf,
from under highest mountain and deepest forest.
Betrayal and battle from ancient times did separate their belief,
but a fellowship would change each and bring out their best.

Saruman, Gandalf and Radagast.
Istari sent by the Valar to watch over all.
To each was given a special task,
did they know to what depths one would fall?

To Frodo it all came down,
could he keep true to the hopes of all?
If not, all could be in a sea of darkness, drowned,
behind black walls, to answer Saurons' call.

If not for a single moment of kindness,
to a loathsome creature called Smeagol,
Frodo in his weakness and blindness,
would have fallen, to the ruin of us all.
