Villanelles - The Foe Hammer

A Villanelle for Rohan

Riding onward with shield and spear,
The Rohirrim march forth to war,
And one might think they have no fear.

Though pending doom has drawn most near,
They shirk not from this grisly chore,
Riding onward with shield and spear.

Helm's fortress now they hold most dear,
Though foe is banging on the door,
And one might think they have no fear.

But they will not be cornered here,
They issue from there gates once more,
Riding onward with shield and spear.

The enemy stabs, and jabs and jeers,
But never reaches to their core,
And one might think they have no fear.

And now victors in this battle clear,
They march toward the Wizard's door,
Riding onward with shield and spear,
And one might think they have no fear.
