The Shadow

- Dinledhwen
A Last Elf Poem

Silent are the woods now
Soft snow lies deep in drifts
The air is frozen still
Winter has brought her sleep.

Yet there’s a shadow here
That moves amongst the trees
Forever seeking rest
For a heart filled with grief.

Over the snow it moves
Leaving no trace behind
Except for its tear drops
Which fall frozen as it bides.

But winter has no warmth
To share with this lone soul
Whose people have long sailed
No more to grace these shores.

So this shadow wanders
In woods so silent now
Where winter rules with cold
But sleep it can not find.
