If Only

- Dinledhwen
A Last Elf Poem

If only I could hear again
The joyful sound of your voices
That once had greeted this roamer
In the places we had dwelled.

If only I could see again
Your happy faces all-around
When once this roamer paused to rest
In the places we had dwelled.

If only I had listened then
When urgently you spoke to me
That I must now cease my roaming
In the places we had dwelled.

If only then could I have seen
This lonely fate I must endure
For I continued my roaming
In the places we had dwelled.
