Free Verse For Bill the Pony Day

- Dandy

Here now...why are you taking off my packs?

I softly blew into the little master's hair
as he rested his head against my nose.

What is the matter, my little master?

I know there is something wrong.

It isn't the time to stop,
we have only journeyed a small distance today.

Still, I am glad to be down from those cold mountains.
I shiver.
Terrible flies.

Here now...why are you taking off my harness?

I wonder if You will allow me a roll in the dust,
before we go on tonight.

Come little master, why are we stopped by this wall.

The silence is quite profound.

I can hear voices over there, an arguement, disagreement, discussion?

The wolves howls were so terrible last night.
I shiver.
Terrible flies.

Here now...why are you taking off my bridle?

Come little master, have you fallen asleep.

Why do you whisper farewell?
I will not be parted from you.

Are you lightening my load Tall Man?

Why do we pause here, there is no grass.

Wait what is that noise.?

The lake it is moving...bubbles, ripples?
Where are you going? WAIT!

Snakes? Rippling towards the shore..
Grasping clinging tentacles..I RUN...
I shiver
Terrible flies.
