The Grief of Arwen

A single petal falls to the silk
A single tear to follow
Love of a man and all his ilk
Has rendered her heart hollow.

A graceful clasp is at her throat
The craftsman is the poet
No words can set her heart afloat
Or belie the pain below it.

Such quiet eyes, oh fairest heart
Wet jewels in the snow
A lifetime and an age apart
She lets her dearest go.

A single petal flutters down
Alights upon the water
Around it all the passions drown
And the heart of Elrond's daughter.
