Shield and Buckler

Long months now upon Rohan’s plain the summer fair has been.
When foe assailed my shield did hold the poison darts at bay.
And wind and rain would try their best but my buckler fast did stay.
My cloak preserved me day and night; my brother has its twin.

I hope to find the riddle solved and so complete my quest.
I find my true shield is my hope for Gondor and its people.
And my Buckler is my love as I looked over them from the steeple.
Now as I draw nigh to Rivendell my journeys end and rest.
