Meanwhile in the UK, Allen and Unwin had put out this paperback version in 1968, the jacket illustration being by Pauline Baynes (who also did the lovely "Bilbo's Last Song" illustrations) - and this grey "Eye"  by Tolkien on a hardbound set between 1966-1970.  The 'Eye of Tolkien' was to return many times over the years.
